EPOC (the Afterburn Effect) stands for excess post-exercise oxygen consumption.
EPOC refers to the elevation in metabolism (rate that calories are burned) after an exercise session ends. The increased metabolism is linked to increased consumption of oxygen, which is required to help the body restore and return to its pre-exercise state.
EPOC is the gas tank that powers your fat-stripping blowtorch, because when you perform a Metabolic Monster workout this induces an “oxygen debt,” that can increase your metabolic rate for up to 24 hours after you train.
This means that when you’re done working out-while you’re at school, at work, or sleeping-your body is still looking to consume fuel sources for the oxygen it needs to restore itself to a resting state.
The good news for you is that it does this primarily through raiding fat stores.
Research has shown that the EPOC effect increases along with the intensity level of the type of exercise you’re performing, like my Metabolic Monster workouts.
Bottom line is you will burn way more calories in this 20 minute metabolic workout than a 45 minute, low/medium intensity long steady state cardio session on the elliptical or treadmill, cause it only takes 30 minutes to get back to a resting state.
Which means way LESS CALORIES and FAT burned from our workout session.
